1. Cars for all tastes
So far we’ve spotted a Ford Mustang, Porsche 911, Scion FR-S, Skyline KPGC10 GT-R and Nissan 180SX. So that’s muscle, euro, JDM and retro fans all catered for, so it’s clear NFS will have cars that’ll appeal to everyone.
2. Real tuners?
Anyone who knows anything about Porsche will instantly recognise the widebody car from tuners RWB (Rauh-Welt Begriff), while the FR-S seen later in the video also appears to be wearing a Liberty Walk kit - check out that rear spoiler and the strakes on the bumper, while the front of the car in the video thumbnail says ‘Rocket Bunny’. It’ll be interesting to see what other companies EA is secretly working with.
3. It's set in Los Angeles
The trailer doesn’t make clear whether the game will take place in a faithful recreation of Los Angeles, or will be simply inspired by it, but the skyline is definitely LA.
4. It takes place at night
The game will take place under the cover of darkness, which is apt given that car-based anti-social behaviour tends to happen in the early hours. Probably. Not that we’d know or anything…
Night-time also allows the gorgeous graphics to shine, with the city lights reflecting off the cars and the road, adding to the cool atmosphere and sense that you’re partaking in highly illegal activity. From a more practical point of view, traffic will be lighter, so your epic race won’t suddenly pile into LA’s famous gridlock.
5. Wet and dry?
The trailer takes place shortly after rainfall. It’s unclear from the footage whether NFS LA ever gets an actual shower, or if the rain-soaked roads are just permanently there to offer up sexy reflections. We’d love to see the occasional downpour throwing a spanner in the works of a hectic street race.
6. Cops on your tail
It wouldn’t be Need For Speed without cops, and sure enough you’ll be facing off against LA’s finest in what appear to be genuine Ford Crown Victoria cop cars.
7. Civilians will drive real cars
This is a small detail, but cool nonetheless. It looks like the civilian cars that’ll be acting as moving obstacles courses during races might actually be modelled on real cars. That’s definitely a BMW 1-Series, and a few Ford F150 pickup trucks crawl past at various points during the trailer. A minor touch, but a nice extra level of authenticity.
